Ryan J. Gavin is a founding member of Kamykowski, Gavin & Smith, P.C. and has successfully represented clients in various types of civil litigation in federal and state courts in Missouri and Illinois. He has tried more than twenty cases to verdict including several cases involving multi-million dollar claims for damages. Ryan’s practice focuses on significant personal injury and death cases as well as those alleging substantial business or economic losses. As a result of his successes and reputation, Ryan has been recognized as a Rising Star by Missouri Super Lawyers each of the last two years.
Ryan’s primary area of practice is the representation of physicians, hospitals, and other health care providers in medical negligence cases. In this capacity he has represented physicians of numerous specialties including internal medicine, pediatrics, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology, among others. Ryan has also represented several hospitals throughout the region in claims alleging direct negligence of hospital staff, vicarious liability for physician care, and negligent credentialing.
In addition to his representation of healthcare providers, Ryan also represents other professionals in claims alleging errors and omissions. Ryan routinely appears for insurance brokers and agents in cases alleging the broker failed to secure appropriate insurance or otherwise satisfy the duties owed the client. He has also represented third party administrators, corporate directors, and actuaries in cases alleging professional negligence.
Ryan is also well-versed in insurance coverage and bad faith litigation. He has represented numerous insurance carriers in the defense of coverage litigation. By virtue of the fact that Ryan regularly represents insured parties in the defense of claims exceeding the available policy limits, he is especially familiar with the law governing the obligations insurance carriers owe their insureds in the defense and settlement of claims with excess exposure.
