Wynne v. Cassat

Defense verdict in 2013 on behalf of a general surgeon and his practice group in a medical malpractice trial. The patient underwent a partial colon resection to treat diverticulitis. He had post-operative complications including an injury to his ureter and a leak from his colon. Over the course of about eleven days the patient underwent two more surgeries to treat his complications before he died. Suit was brought by the patient’s wife for the wrongful death of her husband. The economic and non-economic damages alleged exceeded $1,000,000. The case was tried over 4 days in Franklin County, Missouri and the jury returned a unanimous defense verdict in less than 3 hours.
